APL Author Series: Featuring playwright and novelist Eugene Stickland and local musician Steve Jevne

Join us for an evening of celebrating the arts! Featuring an author reading and intimate discussion with Calgary-based playwright, journalist, and novelist Eugene Stickland, a live performance by local musician Steve Jevne, refreshments, book signing, and a prize draw. Stickland is known for his dark comedy that is “disarmingly humorous and poignant.”

About the Author:

Eugene Stickland is an award-winning writer who has called Calgary home since 1994. Following completion of his MFA in playwriting at York University, he became Alberta Theatre Projects’ playwright in residence for a decade, with many of his dark comedic plays being produced around the world in several different languages. After leaving ATP, Stickland became a feature columnist for the Calgary Herald and a teacher and mentor to the writing community. Eugene was recently awarded the W.O. Mitchell Literary Prize for his novel, “The Piano Teacher,” which is about the often lonely process of becoming an artist.


About the Musician:

Steve Jevne is a local Airdrie musician who writes, performs, records, produces, and instructs. His last album, The January Sessions, was released in 2015 and is available online on iTunes, Spotify, Apple Music and other online platforms.
