Current Volunteer Opportunities!

We strive to make volunteering with Airdrie Public Library a rewarding experience and it is through our volunteers that we are able to strengthen and enhance our services. 

School-Aged Programs

Robotics

This program is for children ages 9+ who would like to learn how to build and code their own robot! We will be using Lego Mindstorms EV3 kits.
Dates: Monday, October 29 & Monday, November 5
Duties: assisting with technology and tear down
Time: from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm
Positions available2tech savvy teens (ages 14+)
 

Tween Zone

Input ideas for upcoming activities, set up, assisting with themed activities and clean up.
Dates: Fridays, from September 21 to December 28
Time: from 2:45 pm to 4:15 pm
Duties: Setup, room control and tear down
Positions available(Teens ages 14+)

 
Star Wars Reads Day!

Star Wars Reads Day is an internationally celebrated event that brings together literacy and Star Wars popular culture.
Date: Saturday, October 6
Time: from 9:30 pm to 3:00 pm
Description: Prepping stations (Craft, refreshment table, greeting table, colouring and printables, green screen, make a mask, scavenger hunt) overseeing stations and clean up.

Preschool Programs

Snowflake Follies

This program is designed for children aged 2-6 and their caregivers. A Special snowy themed Family Storytime. We will explore a winter wonderland of crafts, songs, fun activities and games.
 
Date: Saturday, December 15th 
Time: from 10:00 am to 12:45 pm
Duties: Setup, craft assistance, help with the green screen photos, email photo list and cleanup of craft
Requirements: current criminal record with vulnerable sector checks (adults only)
Positions available: 4 (Teens ages 14+ and Adult Volunteers)
 
Pumpkin Palooza

A fun pumpkin packed family event. This program features a glowing pumpkin parade, Halloween themed stories, activities, crafts and treats

Dates: Tuesday, October 30th, 2018
Time: from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm
Duties: setup, assisting with craft prep and cleanup of craft
Requirements: current criminal record with vulnerable sector checks (adults only)
Positions available: 1 (Teens ages 14+ and Adult Volunteers)
 
Sensational Saturdays

This program is designed for children aged 2-6 and their caregivers. It features a variety of fun themed stories and celebrations. Weekly Saturday activities will vary from crafting, to exploring, to dancing, rhyming or moving.
Dates: September 22nd, October 20th, November 17th and December 15th
Time: from 11:15 am to 12:30 pm
Duties: setup, assisting with craft and cleanup of craft
Requirements: current criminal record with vulnerable sector checks (adults only)
Positions available: 1 (Teens ages 14+ and Adult Volunteers)
 
Creative Hands and Minds

Designed for children aged 3-5. This program features stories, rhymes and a craft for children and their caregivers to share.
Session 1
From September 18th to October 16th

  • Tuesdays, from 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm
  • Thursdays, from 9:20 am to 11:00 am

Session 2
From November 6th to December 11th

  • Tuesdays, from 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm
  • Thursdays, from 9:20 am to 11:00 am

Adult Programs

Adult Board Game Nights

This program features fun and games like Connect 4, Jenga, Card games, Checkers, Yahtzee, and Snakes & ladders.
Date: Monday, November 12th  
Time: from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm
Duties: Assists with setup, looking up rules if needed and take down
Positions available: 1 (Teens ages 14+ and Adult Volunteers)
 
Adult Craft Nights

This program features creative crafts.
Date: September 24th: Wine Cork Succulent Magnets, October 23rdPocket Journals with Deb Lawton & November 20th : Decorative Leaf Wreaths and Yarn Pumpkins
Time: from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm
Duties: Assist with program set up, help participants with the craft, and clean up
Positions available: 1 for each night (Teens ages 14+ and Adult Volunteers)
 
 

Adult Strategy Game Night

This program features games like Settlers of Catan, Ticket to Ride, and Dominion.
Date: Monday, December 3rd   
Time: from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm
Duties: Assists with setup, looking up rules if needed and take down
Positions available: 1 (Teens ages 14+ and Adult Volunteers)

Arts & Culture


APL Author Series

 
Liz Howard
Featuring an author reading and intimate discussion with Liz Howard, live music by David Bradford, refreshments, book signing, and a prize draw.
DateSaturday, October 13th, 2018
Time: from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm
Duties:

  • Refreshments Volunteer – make coffee, plate and serve refreshments, help with set up & tear down
  • Entrance Volunteer – greet guests when they arrive, tracking & evaluations, help with set-up & tear down

Positions available: (Teens ages 15+ and Adult Volunteers)
 
Sharon Butala
Featuring an author reading and intimate discussion with Sharon Butala, live music by TBC, refreshments, book signing, and a prize draw.
Date: Saturday, November 10th, 2018
Time: from 6:00 pm to 9:30 pm
Positions available: (Teens ages 15+ and Adult Volunteers)
Duties:

  • Refreshments Volunteer – make coffee, plate and serve refreshments, help with set up & tear down

Voice & Vision

An official Alberta Culture Days Celebration site! Supported by the Government of Alberta.
Voice & Vision is an event celebrating the literary and visual arts. There will be artwork unveiling, author readings, live music, interactive artistic activities, door prizes and refreshments!
Date: Saturday, September 29th
Time: from 5:00 pm to 9:30 pm
Duties: front door greeter, artwork runner (brings artwork onto easels during author reading) and refreshments (all help to set up and clean up space)

Open Mic Night

A poetry open Mic Night. Participants will share their your literary talents with our community, or come support others. All are welcome, but be aware that this is uncensored content!
DateSaturday, November 24th
Time: from 6:00 pm to 9:45 pm
Duties: Coffee table management, Open Mic sign up desk and Timekeeper
Positions Available: (Adult Volunteers)
 
APL Paint Night Fundraiser

Local artist, Alicia Taylor, will be teaching and interacting with participants while demonstrating a step by step painting workshop.
Date: Saturday, October 20th, 2018
Duties: Help set out art materials, supplies, chairs, tables etc. Tear down to follow event.
Shift 1: from 5:00 to 9:00 pm - Positions available3
Shift 2: from: 5:30 to 9:30 pm - Positions available(Adult volunteer)

  • Fill out an application form  and bring it to the library or e-mail it to info@airdriepubliclibrary.ca
  • The Volunteer Coordinator will contact you within a month of receipt of application to set up an interview.
  • Together you will complete a volunteer agreement and schedule.
