Altered Books: Mixed Media Sketchbook Exploration with Lia Golemba
Join ACAD graduate and local artist Lia Golemba as she opens up her artistic process starting with her sketchbook. Beginning with a discarded book, students will use their own personal inspiration to transform the pages using mixed media materials and techniques.

“My sketchbooks are a bit like time capsules - rather than drawing an exact likeness of a subject or location, I collect
textures and colours that remind me of that person, place or time. When I look back on each volume, that represents
roughly one year of my life at a time, it helps bring me back to all those sensory experiences.

They are my journals - allowing me the opportunity to reflect on life events and explore new mediums. There is no right
or wrong way to work in a sketchbook or altered book, just a series of adventures and memories. The lumps, bumps and
mistakes all become part of the beauty and charm!”
