  • Renew in-person or by phone during regular Library hours; or online at any time with your TRAC/TAL card at www.tracpac.ab.ca

Holds

If an item is checked out, available at another TRAC library, or on order, you may reserve it by placing a hold on the item. You may place up to 25 holds at one time. Books are held for 10 days once received at APL and then sent back if not picked up. Please remember to suspend holds before going on vacation - you will not lose your place in the queue.

You must have a valid library card to pick up holds. *Household cardholders are entitled to pick up holds for each other. Permission noted on the record is no longer needed. Household cardholders who prefer confidentiality and do NOT want other household members to pick up their holds are encouraged to purchase their own individual cards.

Returning Materials

To know when your materials are due, please retain your due date receipt or check the My Account feature in the online catalogue. Materials may be returned via the book drop or in the Library during regular library hours.

Overdue Materials

We encourage you to return materials on time to make them available for others to borrow. If items are returned late, fines will be assessed as follows:

  • $0.10 per day for all adult material to a maximum of $10.00 per item.
  • $0.10 per day for all easy, junior, and young adult material to a maximum of $5.00 per item.
  • For items borrowed through TRAC from another Library, overdue fines will be charged at the lending library's rate.
  • Borrowing privileges will be suspended if fines or other penalties are greater than $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for children and youth.

Claimed Returned Items

Customers may request to place an item on Claimed Item status if they believe an item still checked-out on their card has been returned. To request that an item is changed to Claimed Items status please contact the Circulation Department.

When an item has been placed on Claimed Item status the Library staff will check the library once a month for six months to determine if the item has been misplaced within the Library. The customer will accrue no additional fines during those six months.

If the item is located in the Library, it will be removed from the customer’s record with no fines assessed, and the Claimed Items status will be removed from the customer’s record. If the customer locates the item outside of the library they must return the item promptly to the library and fines will not be assessed.

Misuse of the Claimed Item status strains the library’s collection, budget, and the borrowing privileges of other customers. To protect the collection from this strain a limit of one Claimed Item per card per year will go unquestioned. If a customer has more than one claim per card per year and the material is not located in the Library nor returned by the customer within six months, that customer will be charged for succeeding Claimed Items that cannot be located in the Library.

If the item is not found in the Library during the six month period, or returned by the csutomer, the item will be declared lost and the customer will be responsible to pay only the replacement cost of the item.
